Home Saunas · New York

A real Finnish sauna.
In your backyard.

Not a hot room. Not a wooden box with an infrared panel. A proper kiuas, real stones, steam you can feel in your lungs — delivered and installed in the New York metro area.

Most "home saunas" sold in the US are infrared panels in a wooden frame. They heat your skin, not the air. There's no steam. There's no kiuas. There's no löyly — the burst of steam that is, quite literally, the spirit of the sauna.

We work with Arctic Finland House, a Finnish sauna manufacturer taken over by Estonians to perfect the craft — built on Finnish tradition, run by people who actually use saunas. Outdoor cabins in heat-treated thermo-pine, designed for a real kiuas, engineered to hold 80–90°C with enough humidity that you actually sweat. The kind where someone ladles water onto the stones and you feel it in your whole chest.

We bring those cabins to the New York metro area — outdoor backyard installs and rooftop builds where the building allows it. We handle everything from the first conversation to the first session.

Finnish sauna cabin

What's included

Built right, from the start.

Structure

Solid thermo-wood

Heat-treated pine — dimensionally stable, resistant to moisture and warping, no preservatives or chemicals. Never laminate, never MDF, never particle board painted to look like wood.

Heating

Kiuas-ready design

Every cabin is designed for a real sauna stove — wood-fired or high-output electric, depending on your situation and local fire codes. The stove is the point. We don't cut corners on it.

Installation

Done for you

We work with vetted installers across the NYC metro area — Brooklyn, Queens, Staten Island, Westchester, NJ. Site assessment, permits where needed, full build and commissioning.

Sizes

From 4m² to full custom

A 4m² cabin fits in most urban backyards and holds 2–3 people comfortably. We also do full-size family cabins (8–16m²) for larger outdoor projects.

Sourcing

Tallinn to Brooklyn

Cabins ship pre-fabricated from Finland via Tallinn, typically arriving 6–10 weeks after order confirmation. Installation takes 1–3 days depending on size. From first conversation to first session: under 3 months.

Support

We're available after too

Questions about maintenance, stove upkeep, how to get proper löyly from your setup — we've heard most of them. We're available by email and you can always reach us through the site.

Process

How it works.

01

Free consultation

We talk through your space, your situation, and your budget. No upsell, just an honest assessment of what makes sense.

02

Design & proposal

We recommend the right cabin size and stove configuration, walk through local permit requirements, and give you a full written quote.

03

Order & shipping

Once confirmed, the cabin ships from Finland. We handle logistics and keep you updated through customs and delivery.

04

Installation & first fire

Our team installs and commissions the sauna. You light your first fire the same day. We stay for the first session if you want company.

From a recent install

"It took four weeks from Tallinn to our backyard in Brooklyn. We lit the kiuas on a Saturday evening. By Sunday morning, the whole family had done three rounds."

Common questions

The things people always ask.

Do I need a permit to install an outdoor sauna in NYC?

Usually yes — for anything with electrical wiring or above a certain footprint. The rules vary by borough and building type. We've navigated this enough times that we can give you a realistic picture at consultation. It's not as scary as it sounds.

Can I get a wood-fired sauna in the city?

It depends on your setup. Wood-fired stoves are possible for standalone outdoor cabins on private property, but they require proper chimney clearance and fire code compliance. Electric kiuas (high-output, stone-topped) is the more common choice in NYC — and a well-specced electric stove delivers genuine löyly.

What does it actually cost?

A small backyard cabin (4–6m², electric kiuas, installation included) typically runs $8,000–$14,000 in the NYC area. Larger outdoor cabins start higher. We give written quotes after the consultation — no vague ranges, no hidden fees.

I live in an apartment. Is there any option for me?

Honestly, probably not for a full sauna. A proper sauna needs ventilation, a floor drain, and heat management that most apartments don't allow. What we can do is help you find the best public options near you and advise on portable barrel-style options for rooftops (with building permission). But we'll tell you upfront if a full install isn't realistic.

Is this only for houses, or do you do co-ops and condos too?

We've done installs in private homes, townhouses, and on private rooftop decks. Co-ops and condos need board approval — that's between you and your board, but we can provide technical documentation to support your proposal.
